Georgia Pre-K
This state-funded program is available
for children who are four years old by September 1st of the current school year
(i.e., by September 1, 2007 for the 2007-2008 school year). It is designed
primarily to prepare students for kindergarten. Classes are taught by
certified teachers and provide a very structured schedule.
Daily activities include:
- Circle time (discussion of day of
the week, season of the year, weather, letter of the week, recognition of
daily helpers, etc.)
- Center time (cooperative play time;
centers include Language, Science, Music, Art, Blocks, Manipulatives and
Dramatic Play)
- Small Group time (teacher or
assistant teacher works with groups of 4-5 on curriculum related activites)
- Outside Play
- Music and Movement
- Meal time (breakfast and lunch are
served family-style in the cafeteria; teachers eat with students and use this
time to extend learning)
